On their way from Seville,
Don Juan and his servant Tomillo come upon Countess Estela and her cousin Lisarda being hassled by bandits in the mountains. After Don Juan successfully fends them off, the two women thank him and reunite with Don Fernando de Ribera and Prince Ludovico. As a show of gratitude, Don Juan is invited back to the court in Brussels with the group. As the group departs, an indignant Leanor enters dressed as a man.
She is accompanied by her servant Ribete and the two have traveled from Seville to Flanders in search of the man who promised her his hand in marriage, only to abandon her: Don Juan. Leonor hopes that in finding him, she can exact her revenge and restore her lost honor. Upon finding her brother Don Fernando, who does not recognize his sister and thinks she is his long-lost cousin, Leonardo, she is invited back to the court in Brussels.
Back at the court
Don Juan and Ludovico vie for the attention of Estela who’s grown fond of Leonor in her male disguise. As all this transpires, Leonor conspires a plan that will force Don Juan to publicly confess to his transgressions. She will then challenge him to a duel afterward, hoping to restore her lost honor through his death.By pretending to be Estela, Leonor tricks Don Juan into thinking that Estela found out about his affair. Don Juan later ends up admitting his own crimes to the real Estela when he tries to ask her how she knew about his past.
Furthermore, Leonor, as Leonardo, tells Don Juan that she is in love with Leonor from Seville and has come to Brussels in order to exact her revenge on the man who dishonored her. Jealous and enraged, Don Juan repents and admits that he still loves Leonor as the two are about to duel, allowing Leonor to change out of her male disguise and take Don Juan back. The play ends with the characters matching with one another in the spirit of love, except for Tomillo, who is left single and penniless.
